Videonystagmography, VNG

  • The VNG is the latest technology used to distinguish peripheral disease, such as BPPV, from CNS pathology.
  • The VNG uses an infrared camera to measure eye movements at rest and through a series of head movements. Caloric testing is also performed.
  • If the patient is diagnosed with BPPV, we perform an Epley maneuver which is about 85% effective in providing relief of the symptoms of BPPV.
  • Emily Walker, our VGN technologist, is a board certified member of the American Board of Balance Medicine.
  • Preparation for this test is necessary. Please see "VNG preparation Instructions".
